ANGELA BARRETT (b.1955)
Angela Barrett studied at Maidstone College of Art and the Royal College of Art. Since graduating she has taught Illustration at Cambridge College of Technology and Drawing and at Chelsea College of Art. Her first illustrations for The King, the Cat and the Fiddle (1983) were exhibited at the Barbican and won her a runner's up prize in the Mother Goose Award in 1984. Angela Barrett has been winner of the W H Smith Illustration Award for The Hidden House (1990) and gained second prize in the W H Smith Illustration Award for Snow-White (1991). She has won the Smarties Award, been short-listed for the Kate Greenaway Award, and twice been the runner-up for the Emil Kurt Maschler Award. Angela has published extensively with Walker Books, and Random House, as well as for the prestigious Folio Society, which recently released her volumes of Frankenstein and Dracula. Her artwork has been exhibited widely around the world, especially in Japan where her work is received with great favour.
